Concerned About An MU Student?

Often times family, friends, faculty, or staff members are the first to encounter students who are experiencing serious problems. You may be the person that a student turns to for help. Students may look to you either in crisis situations or when they need support for typical adjustment and decision making issues. The MU Counseling Center is available to help you decide what to do and how best to help.

Crisis Situations

If you are concerned about a student being an imminent danger to himself/herself or others, call the MU Police at 882-7201 or the Columbia Police at 911.  Don’t waste time by calling the Counseling Center first; the safety of the student is the primary task.

Urgent Situations

Counselors are available to consult with you Monday-Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. You may call 882-6601 or come to the center at 119 Parker Hall and ask to speak with the counselor on-call.

Students can walk into the Center to speak to an on-call counselor. It is appropriate for you to offer to accompany the student if you think this would assist the student in following through on speaking to a counselor.
